We have enjoyed a great start to Term 3! I hope the students and their families enjoyed the break over the holidays.
A Message from the SRC:
We are excited to announce that we’re holding a School Colour Fun Run as a major fundraising event this year! The event will be held on Thursday August 31. We are really hoping to raise $20.000 which will help pay for improvements to the school playground.
Keep your eyes peeled for the sponsorship forms which will be sent home with your child. Once you have the form, you should sign up for a Student Profile Page at schoolfunrun.com.au. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and can win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Package!
Students who raise $10 or more will receive a reward, and the more money you raise the better the reward, and the more you help the school!
We are looking for all students to participate and we’re organising a great day for our community, so we’d love everyone to come down to support the kids.
If you have any questions about the Fun Run please contact the School Fun Run Office on 1800 FUN RUN.
Thanks for supporting the school and we hope to see you at the event!

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
Please find attached a Fact Sheet for parents
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

Dear God,
We thank you for giving us your peace.
Help us to spread peace at home and at school by loving and caring for one another.
Help us to spread peace by listening to one another, even when we don’t agree.
Let us pray every day for peace for our families, our friends, ourselves and our world.
Amen
Well done to our award winners who were presented with their certificates at our last assembly, congratulations on all your hard work.
In the 1/2 area we have started our new inquiry topic 'Walking on Country'. On Friday we looked at Aboriginal Art and symbols that represent meeting place, boy, girl, connection lines and stars. We then used these symbols to tell our stories about our families. We have also looked at the difference between Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country. We are very excited to dig deeper into the land we live on.
In Writing we are beginning to learn about writing a narrative. We have looked at the structure of a narrative and how we can describe characters by their appearance, personality, and feelings.

5/6 students are excited to be back for a busy Term 3! We have jumped right back into our learning this week where we are looking at informative writing, multiplication, spending money safely online and 20th century Australian art.
We are looking forward to Footsteps dance program, swimming lessons, inter school netball, book week, the school fun run and an excursion to Melbourne. Our Integrated Studies unit this term focuses on 20th century history. We are exploring Federation, war and post war migration. To help deepen our understanding of this topic we are going on an excursion to Melbourne at the start of week 4 where we will see Parliament house, Melbourne Museum and the Shrine of Remembrance.

Recently in Performing Arts all grades watched the Victorian Opera, ‘Grumpiest Boy in The World.’ This opera was about a 9 year old boy who didn’t want to be normal, he wanted to be extraordinary.
This was an interesting, new experience for most kids in the school. It was a fun and colourful performance with lots of fascinating characters. Many of the actors had different voice types that matched the characters’ personality and role, which we had recently learnt about in class.
It was good to see the majority of kids engaged in the experience, although at some points it was a bit hard to follow. Overall it was a very intriguing and enjoyable event.

Have you heard the exciting news? Our school is hosting a Colour Fun Run on Thursday, August 31 to raise funds for improving our playground. Fundraising opened yesterday, July 17, and all students have received a Parent launch letter this week with information about the event and their own sponsorship booklet.
We hope you will support us by creating your child's profile page at schoolfunrun.com.au. Take your time to familiarise yourself with the page by watching the video, creating your avatar, and most importantly, sharing your link. By creating a page and getting at least one donation, you will automatically be entered into a draw to win a $20,000 prize!
We are also running a competition to get our event off to a flying start! The class with the most online profiles registered by MONDAY JULY 24 will win a prize! To help your child's class win, simply create your profile at schoolfunrun.com.au.
On the event day students are encouraged to wear a white T-shirt, these do not need to be brand new, so look at home for what you have. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Thank you in advance for being a part of our Colour Run!

Protecting our (increasingly younger) children from cyberbullying
The internet has given children and young people new opportunities to learn, play and socialise. However, this increased online presence, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic, also exposes them to new harms and risks.
Concerningly, reports to eSafety’s cyberbullying complaints team show younger children are increasingly experiencing negative online behaviour. Reports of serious cyberbullying of children between the ages of eight and 13 years has more than tripled compared to pre-pandemic 2019 – jumping from a little over 200 complaints in 2019 to almost 740 in 2022.
With Term 3 just around the corner, take a few minutes to learn more about cyberbullying – what it is, ways to protect your child, and how to get help if your child experiences it.

Dealing with Disappointment
As young people learn to navigate through various aspects of their life, they may face disappointment due to unfulfilled expectations, shattered dreams, or unexpected setbacks. Yet, with the appropriate tools, strategies, and a positive mindset, young people can learn to cope with disappointment and use it as an opportunity for personal growth and success.
Disappointment can be a tricky emotion to deal with at any age. It is a normal part of growing up. However, children sometimes need reminding that they have a choice in how they respond to disappointment and their response will determine the impact it has on their future happiness. Overall, disappointment is a healthy and positive emotion and plays an integral part in a child’s emotional, intellectual and social development.
Helping young people manage their disappointment is important in order to avoid stronger emotions such as anxiety and depression. Although a parent’s first reaction may be to fix the problem, it is better to encourage your child to find the words to express how they feel.
In this Special Report, parents and caregivers are provided with strategies on how to help their child process disappointment and look at the problem objectively.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
